Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT Limited Edition Green Dial SBGE033 : Hands On

Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT Limited Edition Green Dial SBGE033

In line with the Grand Seiko 55th Anniversary, Seiko has a beautiful assortment of new limited edition models, outside of the 62GS Historical Collection.  The first we would like to introduce is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT Limited Edition SBGE033, with a beautifully done radial finished green dial.

This new LE features their 9R66 Spring Drive GMT caliber.  The case is stainless steel, and in the same 41mm case as the SBGE011.  The lugs of the SBGE033 are a brushed finish, with the remainder executed in the smooth mirror hand finishing technique known as Zaratsu.

As a first for the Spring Drive GMT's available in the USA, the SBGE033 will feature a brown crocodile leather strap with white contrast stitching.  Another note is that this piece will have a different deployment clasp then seen on other strap models seen in the US market.

The dial's depth of color is impressive, with the metallic green growing more vibrant with the more light applied.  In darker situations, the green is incredibly subtle, which is a known attribute of Grand Seiko.  Subtlety...

Other accents of the dial create more detail, and add character.  For example, the inside of the bezel's 24 hour counter is in white, creating a distinct look that compliments the white text and date window.  The 24 hour hand is also white, with a red tipped, skeleton arrow indicating your home, or GMT, time.

Another first for the US market, the SBGE033 will feature Lumi brite, Seiko's natural luminescent material on the dressier style of this green dialed GMT.  This would be the first non-diver style to have luminescence applied to the GS line up in the USA.

The caliber utilized in the SBGE033 is Seiko's Spring Drive GMT 9R66.  This self-winding movement is made at Shinshu Watch Studio in Seiko Epson's facility in Shiojiri, Japan and contains 296 components, 30 jewels, a 72 hour power reserve and an outstanding accuracy rating of +/- 15 seconds per month due to it's smooth electro magnetically controlled regulation of the mainsprings unwinding.

Stay tuned to AZFT for more information on the SBGE033!  As a limited edition of potentially only 200 pieces, we do know there will be very few for the US market.
