THE ORIGIN AND PHILOSOPHY OF CAMPANOLA
Citizen as a brand was first produced in 1924, and actually became the company name in 1930. Since then Citizen has produced approximately 300 million watches or watch movements and has been at the cutting edge of many innovations in watch making during that time. For example, they produced Japan's first shock-resistant watch in 1956; the first wrist-watch with an alarm in 1958; Japan's first totally waterproof watch in 1959; Japan's first electronic wrist-watch in 1966, and many other 'firsts'.
The Campanola name is derived from the combination of the names of the little Italian town of Nola, and the region of Italy where Nola is located, namely Campania. It was at this location, according to the Campanola website, where legend has it that the town heralded the first occasion a bell was rung to mark the passage of time. It is certainly a nice idea, and one that Campanola watches reflect in their enigmatic timepieces as each gives out a bell-like chime every hour, quarter-hour or minute as desired.
Campanola watches also feature Citizen's 'Perpetual Calendar' - a fully automatic calendar which adjusts the end of the month and leap year changes automatically, and Duratect - Revolutionary, scratch-resistant treatment that retains the qualities of the original metal and that will keep your Campanola watch looking like new even if you do wear it every day.
Citizen prides itself on the quality of its craftsmanship where every part from movement to band are hand-finished and assembled by their master watch makers, and this is certainly apparent in these stylish and unusual Campanola watches.
